Silk Road simulation Middle Ages Unit

$4.05

This engaging simulation in barter and trade explores the challenges in trading on the Silk Road during the Middle Ages

In this student-tested and approved hands-on trade simulation, students “travel” with Marco Polo on the Silk Road to Kashgar. Students take on the role of traders to explore the challenges of barter by exchanging goods on the Silk Road. Students practice non-verbal skills because of language barriers, a very real situation for many students. Students determine the economy i.e. they decide which goods are more valuable than others by determining trade prices.

What teachers say about the Silk Road Simulation:

  • We LOVED this activity! The kids were so engaged in both the activity and the discussions after the actual trading was finished!

  • This was really fun!! Instead of just giving the students the goods, I stapled envelopes around the room with the cities name on it. They had to travel to a new country then back home before venturing out to a different city. If they met up with travelers in kashgar, they could barter and trade. We had a lot of fun.

  • LOVE THIS!! I combined this idea along with GATE prompts in a lesson plan for my principal's observation and for completion of BTSA. Everyone loved it and the students had a great time and learned a TON! Thanks for the help!!! A keeper for every year!!

  • We had so much fun with this! Thanks!

  • Very helpful and huge time saver
