- I love going to pick apples in the Fall. We have lots of great places nearby, and so we trek out and get pounds of pounds of apples. Most of the apples end up in applesauce for us to enjoy all winter in what I think of the fruit drought (when the variety of spring and summer fruit seems so far away). Some get prepared for pies and galettes which can be frozen, and of course, many are eaten right away. YUM!
I used to seriously dread teaching U.S. History. So, I had to get very creative to find something I like about it. As a result, now I love investigating the fascinating life and times of colonists with my students. When I am teaching U.S. History, Fall is the time that my students and I explore the colonies - the towns, the religion, the food, and all of it. My students' enthusiasm encourages me and we have a great time.
And although it is cliche, I love the smell of freshly sharpened pencils and all the laughter that comes with teaching. Every day, I get to smile with delightful, challenging, deep, troubled, goofy and amazing human beings. And for that, I am grateful.
